Why Yelapa?

Planning a Yoga retreat in Yelapa is very intentional. As we begin our journey toward Yelapa in December 2026, most of us will be tired from the busyness of life and hungry for a chance to really pause, a chance to reconnect to ourselves.
First, we UNPLUG: We meet in Yelapa MX, that magical village of no cars, no roads, and no rushing to remind ourselves to savor each and every moment of this amazing life we have been given. And we will do just that.
Then, we RESTORE: We meet at the oceans’s edge on our mats together, breathing in all of that amazing ocean prana, surrounded by the natural rhythms of the jungle, realizing that the rushed and tired us that arrives in Yelapa is not the natural state of being of who we really are. Through the ancient wisdom and practices of Ayurveda and Yoga, we restore our connection to ourselves.
So we can RENEW: The magic of Yelapa holds space for us as we sit in meditation, recommitting to a practice of stillness. It holds space for us as show up on our mats, curious about how we can care for ourselves a bit differently going forward. And it holds space for us to set intentions for how we want to move through our lives once we return home.
Meet Your Host

Dr. Kelli Sammis
Dr. Kelli Sammis is an E-RYT-500 yoga studio owner, Masters of Wisdom Meditation Teacher, scholar of the Bhagavad Gita, and Ayurvedic Health Coach, but those are merely lines on a CV. What’s most important to know about Kelli, as your host for this retreat, is that her journey is no different from yours. Through life-threatening and heart-breaking traumas AND incredible moments of joy, peace, and celebration, she has learned that no matter what life has for her today, tomorrow, or in the years to come, the only way to navigate it all is through her Practice.
From the mat the last 20 years and from the cushion the last 40 years, Kelli has developed a deep and sustaining practice of Svadhyaya (self-study) and Santosha (contentment). However, her practice of these two Niyamas (personal observances) goes beyond the direct English meaning of the words:
Svadhyaya + Santosha – the more I sit with myself and get to really know myself, the more I understand how to authentically embrace myself. From a place of self-compassion and gratitude, I wake up every single day, ready to release anything not aligned with my dharma (purpose) and embrace all that the universe has for me.
Her practice is rooted in the teachings of Ayurveda which has not only sustained her through challenging parts of her life, but has also given her the tangible and accessible tools to release the DIS-ease from her life. That practice will serve as the inspiration and backdrop for our time together in Yelapa.
What's Included

Yogasana & Meditation
Yogasana & Meditation

Daily morning and evening classes will be offered. Morning meditation will be before sunrise, followed by hatha yogasana classes once the sun has come up. The asana classes will be inclusive and accessible for all experience levels. They will be our chance to greet the new day with wonder and amazement, express gratitude for our incredible surroundings, and connect to the energy that is within ourselves, within our yoga community, and within the universe. Because our week together is happening around the New Moon, our physical practices on the mat will be planned in alignment with the lunar phases, reminding us of the light we each have within.
Note: Yoga Mats and Yoga Props will all be provided by Pura Vida.

Local Cuisine
Local Cuisine

The buffet-style meals provided at Pura Vida are primarily organic and plant-based, and always wholesome and nourishing. Meals will be gluten-free, sugar free, and vegetarian, with vegan options available. (Note: Fish and chicken can be added as per request, for a small upgrade in price)
Our retreat includes all meals, but we also encourage yogis to have other meals in the village, so that they can get to know the locals a bit more and contribute to the local livelihood by supporting the various restaurants.

Mantra Practice
Mantra Practice

Mantra yoga practice focuses on chanting sacred syllables along with conscious breathing and a meditative intention to quiet the mind, cultivate spiritual energy, and create states of enlightenment. Our daily mantra practice will be offered as a way to cultivate personal connection to the vibrations while exploring the meanings of the various mantras that are shared.
These offerings will be meaningful to those with a regular mantra practice and will be accessible to those who are new to this practice, arriving with a sense of curiosity.

Nature Excursions
Nature Excursions

From a gentle 30-minute hike to Yelapa’s little waterfall to a 3 mile hike to the 150’ bigger waterfall to an excursion to another community gem up the coast from Yelapa, you’ll experience the natural beauty this corner of the earth has preserved over time. Various other excursions can be booked through Pura Vida, but the cost of these nature excursions are not covered by your retreat enrollment.

Temazcal & Cacao Ceremonies
Temazcal & Cacao Ceremonies

Participants will have the opportunity to engage with the Temazcal on site at Pura Vida. This traditional Mexican sweat lodge involves sitting in a small, dark, and heated space to promote physical and spiritual healing by inducing sweating and releasing toxins. We will also offer a Cacao ceremony for participants to experience as a group. This ceremonial gathering offers Cacao in a supportive and intentional space and aims for participants to create a deeper connection with themselves, others, and the natural world. When we engage with Cacao ceremonially, we open ourselves up to a far greater experience than simply enjoying Cacao as a delicious beverage that has health and energy benefits; rather the Cacao ceremony is a way to bring ourselves back into alignment with the cosmos.
