Mantra, Movement, and Meditation: A journey through the Yogas of
The Bhagavad Gita

There is no other 300-hr training like ours! We journey through the 18 chapters of The Gita to learn how this ancient text not only informs YOGA as a path for life, but how, 2500 years ago, it gave guidance and direction for the same struggles we are experiencing in the 21st century today! Through the lens of functional anatomy, learn how to deepen your asana practice through intuitive sequencing and dharma talks!

Mantra

Yoga has become so popularized in the West because of its broad appeal of motivating practitioners to achieve fitness goals rather than helping them to see the spiritual transcendence that is possible through this ancient practice. Many might even say that yoga in the West has almost deceived the masses by convincing them that it is merely a physical practice.

This training will gently guide students back to the roots of yoga as they first discover that the simple chanting of OM can not only focus the mind, but also create positive vibrations that remind us of the absolute connection that ties all of humanity together.

Through various other ancient and powerful mantras, including each student’s own Nakshatra (birth star) mantra, we will begin to understand how Mantra truly is a MIND-TOOL, bring us back to Patanjali’s Yoga Sutra 1:2 - Yoga citta vritti nirodha –
“ Yoga calms the fluctuations of the mind.”

Movement

Because students are already coming in with a foundational understanding of postures, anatomy, and modification, we explore ASANA in a different way during this training. In Yoga Sutra 2:46 Patanjali writes: sthira sukham asanam or “Asanas should be stable and comfortable with a balance between effort and ease”. During this study, we return to the foundation of what asana was always intended to be … preparation for the body to sit in meditation.

We will look at asana through the lens of David Keil’s Functional Anatomy as we explore both the science of the body as well as its typical and atypical challenges as they relate to each practitioner’s converging histories.

This will give student options beyond the templated and predictable way of sequencing that most learned in their 200-hr as we discover the essence of Intuitive Sequencing and how to use Dharma Talks to inspire what is taught and experienced on the mat.

Meditation

Through a deep dive journey into the 18 chapters of The Bhagavad Gita, students of all backgrounds, all faiths, all beliefs and experiences will begin to see how these ancient teachings from a battlefield in the middle of India have provided a clear and realistic guide for us to consult as we live our busy, distracted, and ever-changing lives in the 21st century.

The Gita teaches us about three distinct forms of yoga – Karma (action), Jnana (wisdom), and Bhakti (devotion) – all with the intention of preparing us for engaging in a consistent meditation practice.

We will look at various forms of meditation, inspired by many different spiritual traditions, so that students will be able to find a meditation path that works for where they are in their lives currently.
