Why TAOS?

Nature is calling. Join us for a transformative journey to the enchanted land of Taos, NM where we will awaken our inner self and begin to connect to the sacred wisdom of the elements of nature that are so strongly felt in this magical land.
Taos is one of the most special destinations in the southern United States, due in part to the stunning and unique beauty of this area, but also due to the history of the Taos Pueblo, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. You’ll marvel at the fact that this majestic landscape that includes the Rio Grande Gorge is right here in our own country.
Many who visit Taos feel a quiet presence throughout the land— a presence that offers an invitation to slow down, reflect, and realign.
We will accept this offer as we arrive together on retreat, as we find our way to our mat, and as we spend time on our cushion.
Meet Your Host

Dr. Kelli Sammis
Dr. Kelli Sammis is an E-RYT-500 yoga studio owner, Masters of Wisdom Meditation Teacher, scholar of The Bhagavad Gita, and Ayurvedic Health Coach, but those are merely lines on a CV. What’s most important to know about Kelli, as your host for this retreat, is that her journey is no different from yours. Through life-threatening and heart-breaking traumas AND incredible moments of joy, peace, and celebration, she has learned that no matter what life has for her today, tomorrow, or in the years to come, the only way to navigate it all is through her Practice.
From the mat the last 20 years and from the cushion the last 40 years, Kelli has developed a deep and sustaining practice of Svadhyaya (self-study) and Santosha (contentment). However, her practice of these two Niyamas (personal observances) goes beyond the direct English meaning of the words.
"The more I sit with myself and get to really know myself, the more I understand how to authentically embrace myself. From a place of self-compassion and gratitude, I wake up every single day, ready to release anything not aligned with my dharma (purpose) and embrace all that the universe has for me."
It’s that daily practice of Svadhyaya and Santosha, along with Asana, Meditation, and Mantra that will be the curriculum of our time together in Taos.

Visits to Spiritual Sites
Visits to Spiritual Sites

Three very special visits are included in your retreat experience - the Taos Pueblo, the Neem Karoli Baba Ashram, and Rio Grande Gorge Bridge.
The Taos Pueblo is not only a UNESCO Heritage site, but it is also a living Native American community. The multi-storied adobe buildings have been continuously inhabited for over 1000 years and today is home to about 150 permanent residents.
The Gorge Bridge is a beautiful place to tread gently and mindfully upon the earth, pausing to notice the expansiveness of the nature around you.
The Ashram is a sacred space for meditation and service where aspirants practice both bhakti and karma yoga. It was built to honor the life, work, and teachings of Sri Neem Karoli Baba, an Indian saint whose simple message of universal love and service continues to touch millions of lives. We hope to offer our own service to the ashram when we visit.
